Cape Town - The trial of a man accused of murdering Clanwilliam teacher Allison Plaatjies, is expected to resume tomorrow after more delays.
The trial of Phillip April was expected to continue on Monday but was postponed to August 3.
It is understood witnesses, who are expected to be part of the trial, had to undergo further consultation.
Meanwhile, the Plaatjies family told the media they were waiting in anticipation for the trial and had to travel many kilometres to get to the court case, only for it to be postponed again.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said: “He is charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Allison Plaatjies, whose throat was slit and she was also stabbed several times. He then stole her vehicle and is charged with murder and theft.”
Plaatjies’ family told the media: “The mother was called to court on Tuesday, and it was postponed again to Wednesday.
“There are witnesses who need to be interviewed and prepared.”
A new prosecutor has since been assigned to the case.
Plaatjies had ended her relationship with April before the murder took place.
It is believed April tried to behead her. Her body was found on the floor of her flat in Katjiepiering Street in October 2019.
Plaatjies began her teaching career at Sederberg Primary School in Clanwilliam.
April had been arrested after allegedly being found in possession of her vehicle and has since abandoned his bail application.
