A tip-off led police to arrest a man in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old Hanover Park girl.

The arrest was made two days after the body of Jehaan Petersen was discovered on an open field along Greenturf Road in Hanover Park after she had been missing two for two weeks.

Petersen was found with wounds on her body and head, and while the motive for the attack is still unknown, police said they had arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the murder.

The man was nabbed by Bishop Lavis police, some 10 kilometres away from where the teen’s remains were found.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday evening while officers were following up on information.

“The male suspect was arrested in Bishop Lavis. Once charged, the 33-year-old male suspect will make his court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court,” said Twigg.

Police are still urging the public to come forward with information that could assist the investigation process.

“I want to applaud the work of SAPS Bishop Lavis. This effort, dedication and commitment will surely return hope for justice but must also restore our trust and faith in our Law Enforcement agencies,” said Mckenzie.
