Two people died in a multi-vehicle accident on M1 Higginson Highway, toward Chatsworth, on Tuesday evening.
According to a statement issued by ALS Paramedics, one of the three vehicles involved in the crash, landed on Almond Road, which runs parallel to the Higginson Highway at a lower level. The driver of this vehicle succumbed to his injuries.
The other driver, a female believed to be in her 30s, reportedly died on the scene before the paramedics arrived.
The driver of the third vehicle did not sustain injuries.
“Paramedics found two people severely entrapped in their vehicle on Almond Road and immediately began treating them while awaiting rescue services. Unfortunately, the driver of the bakkie, a male believed to be in his 50s, had sustained major injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do for him. He was declared deceased on the scene.
“The passenger had sustained serious injuries and while Advanced Life Support paramedics worked to stabilise him, the Ethekwini Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the man free.
“Paramedics also found the driver of one of the vehicles found on the M1 had sustained major injuries and unfortunately had passed away before the paramedics arrived. The driver, a female believed to be in her 30s, was declared deceased at the scene."
