Police have issued warrants of arrest for two men who are on the run after they were convicted and sentenced for the murder of a Gauteng businessman.

The men, Denish Moodley and Ugresen Perumal, appeared in the Johannesburg High Court and were found guilty of killing Avinash Manjanu. They were each sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.

Manjanu, 31, a businessman from Lenasia South, was shot at a birthday party at a councillor’s home in 2017.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, a Gauteng police spokesperson, said the men appealed their sentencing and it was dismissed.

“The court ordered the two to hand themselves over to the authorities where they will commence with their sentences. Instead, the duo decided to abscond and disappeared. Warrants of arrest have been issued for the men.”

He said police are appealing to anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of Moodley and Perumal, to call Colonel Nelson Manganyi on 079 529 4642 or Sergeant Isaac Mokati on 072 326 9067.
