COMMUNITY members gathered outside Emaan Fatima Ghumman’s school this morning to celebrate her release.
A week after the nine-year-old Eastern Cape school girl was allegedly kidnapped, it has been reported that she was released today (Wednesday morning).
It has been reported that Emaan Fatima Ghumman, 9, of Buffalo Flats in East London, had been reunited with her family, after a ransom was paid.
It is alleged Emaan, a Pakistani national, and her brother were walking home from school when a silver-grey Corolla, with no number plates, approached them on February 4. Two unknown men grabbed Emaan and drove off, leaving her brother behind.
Earlier this week, in a video circulated on social media, Emaan, who was seen still dressed in her school uniform and with her arms behind her back, was heard pleading, “Please… please… I don't want to stay here anymore. Please give them what they want.”
On their Facebook page earlier today, the Pakistan South Africa Association East London, said: “Thank(s) to almighty God Emaan Fatima is back home. Thank(s) to everyone who pray(ed) and (showed) support for her.”
In the last week, the community, activists and political leaders took to the streets calling for her release and the government to tackle the increasing number of kidnappings in the province.
Police did not comment at the time of publishing.
