THE 6th annual Durban Ganesh Utsav is set to begin this weekend at the Greyville Racecourse in Durban.
The festival, dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Ganesha, is being organised by Viran Singh and Aman Dang.
Singh said: "The Durban Ganesh Utsav is a vibrant and spiritually enriching festival. It has been a beacon of devotion and community spirit, offering a space for devotees to come together, seek blessings, and celebrate the divine presence of Lord Ganesha. We are proud to continue this tradition, providing free entry to all devotees who wish to participate in the celebrations."
He said each evening after the satsang, they would serve supper to all attendees.
"The aim is to foster a sense of community and togetherness. This event is a wonderful opportunity for families and individuals to immerse themselves in the spiritual atmosphere and enjoy the cultural festivities."
Singh said the highlight of the festival was the visarjan programme on September 15.
"Through sponsorships we have imported 10 handcrafted murthies from India, which will be taken from the festival and loaded onto a boat at the Durban habour to be immersed into the water. The murthies are different sizes and are biodegradable."
He said the immersion could be viewed from the lookout point at Durban's Blue Lagoon between 1pm and 3pm.
The festival will begin on Saturday from 6pm and will continue until September 15.
