The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) continues to shut critics down as it proves it’s not a “regional organisation”.
This was as the party secured Ward 45 in North West, beating both the EFF and the ANC.
Newly elected Ward 45 Councillor Thabiso Molefe said he expected to win the ward as he had worked with community members both inside and outside the ward for most of his life
Molefe said residents in his area and ward did not have issues with water challenges as the Royal Bafokeng clan was supplying residents with water.
“We don’t have pressing water challenges in our area; as for electricity, we recently are experiencing electricity challenges due to the newly formed informal settlement nearby.
“A complaint has since been made and ever since we have been experiencing load shedding/load reduction,” he added.
Molefe put his decisive victory down to the ANC’s failure to deliver on promises made to the people.
“I made sure that everything I promised the community, I deliver. I have an established a trust relationship between myself and the community. I also made the municipality to undertake that water trucks would be deployed in areas where there was a shortage of water.”
On the other hand, the party has also secured Ward 14 of the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality in Uguni, KwaZulu-Natal.
Congratulating the party’s newly elected councillor Thamsanqa Pat Madlala, MK’s national organiser Floyd Shivambu said he was thrilled that Madlala had led the party to victory.
“For an eight-month-old party, we are building a solid foundation towards the 2026 local government elections. We particularly convey our gratitude to the volunteers, ground forces and Councillor Thamsanqa Pat Madlala of Ward 14 Ray Nkonyeni for leading the MK Party to a decisive and clear victory.
“The MK Party in Ward 14 Ray Nkonyeni defeated the reactionary forces of the so called Government of National Unity despite the fact that they abused state resources and institutions to campaign in the ward,” Shivambu said.
The party also expressed its happiness at what it called a resounding victory in the recent by-election held in Rustenburg, North West.
“This victory is a testament that the MK Party, and contrary to negative, tribalistic perceptions, is an organisation for all South Africans regardless of ethnic group,” the party said in a statement.
