THE Boxer Super Run Tshwane is the new kid on the national road running block.
Following the success of last year’s Boxer Super Run Durban, promoters Stillwater Sports have joined forces with sponsors Boxer Superstores to add a Tshwane event to the calendar. The 5km run will make its Tshwane debut on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Uitspan on the TuksSport Campus.
As with the Durban event, the event will bring together runners of all ages and abilities for a day of fun, fitness and camaraderie in the nation’s capital. The popular 5km distance attracts a diverse range of participants from seasoned athletes to newcomers to experience a world-class road run.
“The debut of the Boxer Super Run Tshwane in November marks an exciting milestone for the event,” says Stillwater Sports MD Michael Meyer.
“We’re thrilled to bring this dynamic 5km experience to the Jacaranda City. It offers runners of all levels the chance to be part of something special.
“Tshwane’s vibrant running community, combined with the unique format of the Boxer Super Run, promises an unforgettable day of fitness, fun, and fierce competition. We can’t wait to see the energy and enthusiasm that this city will bring to the event.”
Boxer Superstores official Lee-Ann Pillay said the event enjoys great appeal and gives elite athletes another platform to showcase their prowess.
“The move to host a second event highlights the success and appeal of the Boxer Super Run. It truly is an event for everyone,” said Pillay.
“This expansion allows us to bring the excitement and inclusivity of the Boxer Super Run to more runners, and we can’t wait to see Tshwane embrace this incredible event.”
Meanwhile, Super Run Durban will return to the streets of the KwaZulu-Natal coastal city on Sunday, October 13, with an impressive R147 000 prize purse. The men’s and women’s winners are each in the running for a R20 000 payday.
“This event has redefined the standard for 5km events, and we’re raising the bar higher this year with an unprecedented R147 200 prize purse,” said Meyer
“In the elite race, prize money will be awarded to the top eight men and women finishers, with the winners each taking home a well-deserved R20 000. The top three finishers in the various categories will also be rewarded for their efforts.
“In 2023, Boxer Athletics Club’s top runners Precious Mashele and Glenrose Xaba set remarkable records as the fastest South African men and women (at the time) to complete a 5km run on home soil, with times of 13:44 and 16:03, respectively.”
