It seems like Nicole Kidman has a knack for playing a wealthy woman with a complicated family dynamic at the centre of a murder mystery.

After taking centre stage in whodunnit shows like “Big Little Lies”, “The Undoing” and “Nine Perfect Strangers”, the Hollywood star is among those leading the cast of the new Netflix series “The Perfect Couple”.

Based on an adaptation of the 2018 novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, the drama is set to drop on the streaming giant on September 5.

The 57-year actress will play Greer Garrison Winbury, a famous novelist and mother.

The rest of the star-studded cast include Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning and Eve Hewson. They will be joined by Meghann Fahy, Michael Beach, Jack Reynor and Billy Howle, among others.

“The Perfect Couple” centres around Amelia Sacks (Hewson), who is about to marry into the wealthy Nantucket Winbury family. This is despite the disapproval of their matriarch (Kidman).

But when a body is found on the beach during the weekend of the wedding, everyone becomes a suspect as secrets are revealed.

The six-episode series is also set to probe at the darkness lurking just below an idyllic, carefully curated façade of New England charm.

It is directed by Susanne Bier, who also serves as an executive producer, alongside Kidman, showrunner Jenna Lamia, Hilderbrand and Levy.

While the limited series takes much inspiration from Hilderbrand’s book, which spent several weeks on the “New York Times” best-seller list, Netflix is set to give the story its own spin.

According to reports, this includes changing the bride’s surname from Otis to Sacks.

The synopsis follows Amelia (Hewson) as she prepares to marry into one of Nantucket’s wealthiest families. But when a dead body appears on the beach, everyone’s champagne dreams quickly vanish and are replaced by suspicion.

As secrets bubble up to the surface, an investigation takes hold that feels plucked from one of Greer’s books. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect.”

∎ “The Perfect Couple” will premiere on Netflix on September 5.
