African content creators are taking over social media by producing top-tier content on TikTok.

Seeing that most of them don’t get paid by the app compared to other countries, TikTok announced the launch of its 2024 inaugural Visionary Voices Africa List.

In this list are 15 visionary African creators, business owners and industry disruptors, who are making an impact and shifting culture.

The Africa 2024 Visionary Voices industry disruptors are:

@burnaboyofficial (Nigeria): Real name Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, he is an award-winning musician.

Although he is in the US, he still celebrates his Nigerian roots through Afrobeats, dance and fashion.  His hit song “City Boy” has been used in dance challenges across TikTok.

@hildabaci (Nigeria): Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, is a pretty lady who knows her way around the kitchen.

The owner of My Food by Hilda and Hilda Baci Academy made headlines when she broke a Guinness World Record for marathon cooking by an individual in 2023.

@popi_sibiya (South Africa): The travel blogger is the best in the game. Not only does she travel for a good cause (by raising awareness for needy African countries like Congo), but she also documents the humanity amongst Africans.

She seldom stays in luxurious hotels because she wants to connect with the communities of the countries she visits, hence she stays with them at their homes.

@thejoyofficialmus (South Africa): Music is therapy. And The Joy heals many with their mix of traditional Zulu beats and modern acapella vibes.

The group loved by Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson recently performed alongside Doja Cat at Coachella to open her headline performance.

@uncle.waffles (Swaziland): The Amapiano DJ is a global sensation. She is known for her stage presence when performing because she just doesn’t stand behind the decks and nod her head, she dances for her crowd, leaving them begging for more.

The list also includes African content creators @elsa.majimbo (Kenya), @moghelingz (South Africa), @chadjones (South Africa), @arapuria (Kenya) and @__iremide (Nigeria).

Under the small business owners, we have @dreadlocksnairobikenya (Kenya), @kaylakimkay (South Africa), @kaylakimkay (South Africa), @kaylakimkay (South Africa) and @Rethread_ (South Africa).
