Afropop singer Zee Nxumalo’s hit collaboration with Pabi Cooper and 031Choppa, “Thula Mabota” has officially been certified platinum in South Africa.

This marks Nxumalo’s first platinum plaque as a lead artist.

Prior to this, Nxumalo was presented with multi-platinum certifications for her contributions on the hit singles “Nguwe” by Bandros and Zani and “Funk 55” by DBN Gogo and Shakes & Les.

“Thula Mabota”, which was released in March, sold over 40 000 units, has garnered over five million streams across various platform, while its corresponding dance challenge took on a life of its own on TikTok.

Nxumalo’s success comes hot on the heels of her recent collaboration with Dlala Thukzin on “Ama Gear”, which is beginning to take off globally.

The Afropop singer said: “This means a lot to me because a lot of my early success has been on other people’s music so I’m really happy to have been able to prove to people and most importantly myself, that I could also be the lead artist on a big song.

“I want to also shout out to Pabi Cooper, Choppa and Shakes & Les for working with me on this song and sharing this moment with me.”

“Thula Mabota” is the first release from Nxumalo’s upcoming album.

Her manager, Shingai Darangwa, is hoping that this would set the tone for what they believe will be one of the best albums to come out of South Africa in a long time.

“She dynamic, she's fun, she's incredibly talented and we feel confident that she has the package to grow into a true global export over the coming months.

“She is also really in a good flow and, even beyond the music, there’s a lot more exciting work that’s being done behind the scenes that we’re looking forward to sharing with her fans soon,” said Darangwa.
