Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane will hope that his star goalkeeper Denis Onyango is not too seriously injured.
Ugandan shot-stopper Onyango collided with Polokwane City player Mbulelo Wagaba late in the first half of their Absa Premiership match at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
Onyango had come out to collect the ball in the air, but was challenged by Wagaba, whose elbow struck the goalkeeper in the face.
Onyango fell awkwardly and stayed down, and was first treated on the field before being eventually lifted into an ambulance and taken to hospital.
The giant goalie was replaced by another international, Kennedy Mweene of Zambia, in goal.
Sundowns provided a brief update on Twitter: “Denis is in a stable condition, and will have
multiple tests done following a serious head injury.”
Masandawana made a good start to the game, with defender Ricardo Nascimento scoring with a header from a Gaston Sirino assist in the 17th minute.
They increased their lead in the second half, with new signing Lebohang Maboe rising high to beat Polokwane goalkeeper George Chigova in the 53rd minute.
