New Kaizer Chiefs signing Inacio Miguel said a conversation with a fellow player swayed his choice to join the Soweto Giants.
The 28-year-old who joined from Angolan outfit Petro de Luanda, explained that a talk with former Cape Town City goalkeeper Hugo Marques persuaded him to make the move to Naturena ahead of the new Betway Premiership starting on Saturday.
Both Miguel and Marques have represented Angola, and the advice from the 38-year-old keeper was clearly taken seriously.
Miguel did not seem to know how big Chiefs are in South Africa, and he could be forgiven as the club fell to 10th in the league last season and have not won the league title in a decade.

‘Don’t think twice’
“He [Marques] told me not to think twice about it, Kaizer Chiefs is a big club in South Africa, Africa and they are world recognised,” the centre back Miguel said.
“He said that if I want something different in my career and a new challenge, there’s no other better club to go to. So, yeah Hugo Marques [convinced] me to come here. It makes me happy also.”
The potential at Chiefs was something that also excited the player.
Miguel also said he had extensive discussions with Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr.
“It was the project that Kaizer talked to me about that made me view that in the future they want to do something big for the future.
“I think I have won everything with Petro in those two years that I was there, and I felt that I needed a new challenge and what’s better than Kaizer Chiefs?”
