CAPE TOWN – The Premier Soccer League have placed Black Leopards chairman David Thidiela on a “precautionary suspension” following his outburst at referee Victor Hlungwani.
Thidiela was incensed by Hlungwani’s performance in Leopards’ 1-0 defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic at Thohoyandou Stadium at the weekend.
Among a number of insults, Thidiela was heard on an audio clip warning Hlungwani that “you come here at your own risk” in future.
Thidiela has since said that he has apologised to the referee and was going to submit a letter to SA Football Association president Danny Jordaan.
The PSL Board of Governors met on Thursday to discuss the matter.
“The Board of Governors also discussed the matter relating to the alleged utterances which appear to have been made by Black Leopards FC Chairman, Mr David Thidiela,” the league said in a statement.
“The BoG referred the matter to the League’s Prosecutor, Mr Nande Becker, for urgent attention.
“In the interim, the BoG resolved to place Mr Thidiela on precautionary suspension from the PSL Executive Committee until the matter is resolved.”
