CAPE TOWN – It’s taken the best part of six weeks, but Kaizer Chiefs are finally able to call ‘Dax’ an Amakhosi player.
Andriamirado Aro Hasina Andrianarimanana – that’s his full name – will wear jersey No 6, and is an attacking midfielder from Madagascar, who joined the Naturena team camp on August 6.
But his former amateur club Fosa Juniors FC have claimed that he is contracted to them.
In a Facebook post in June already, the club stated: “Following recent speculation in the media in respect of a transfer of Andriamirado Aro Hasina (Dax) to Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa, we would like to put on the record that the latter club has not approached Fosa Juniors FC for a transfer and no transfer has been signed between the two clubs.
“However, we remain open to any serious offer respecting the procedures for the international transfer of players.”
Dax caught Chiefs’ eye during the Cosafa Cup, where they beat Bafana Bafana on penalties.
But the 27-year-old has had to kick his heels while training with the Amakhosi, and has missed the eight games this season.
Chiefs took the matter to Fifa for a decision, and they unveiled the good news on Instagram on Wednesday: “Dax has been cleared by FIFA and will be registered to play for Kaizer Chiefs.”
In a statement on their website, the club said: “Kaizer Chiefs’ attacking midfielder Andriamirado ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana has provisionally been cleared to play for Amakhosi by FIFA’s Players’ Status Committee.
“The world football’s governing body’s Single Judge decided to authorise SAFA to provisionally register the player for its affiliated club, Kaizer Chiefs with immediate effect.
“Amakhosi can expect to see the new jersey number 6 in action soon.”
Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung added: “We feel vindicated and are happy the matter has been resolved. What’s important for us is that the player can now focus on his football and doing well for us.”
It is unclear, though, if he will be thrown straight into the fray for Saturday’s big Absa Premiership clash against Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium (3pm kickoff).
Coach Giovanni Solinas needs to find some inspiration from somewhere, considering the fact that his team have yet to record a victory in the league.
Chiefs are languishing in 13th position with four points after four draws and a defeat.
Solinas is also waiting on two other new players, Bafana midfielder Lebogang Manyama and defender Mario Booysen, to be fit enough for selection.
