CAPE TOWN – It was a big blow to lose one of their kingpins Lebohang Maboe last week, but now Maritzburg United have acquired a second player since.

The Team of Choice confirmed on Tuesday that Keletso Makgalwa has joined them from Mamelodi Sundowns on a season-long loan deal, which was part of the agreement that saw Maboe move to Chloorkop last week.

Maritzburg also captured striker Yannick Zakri, who was on loan at Ajax Cape Town last season, from Sundowns.

The 21-year-old Makgalwa has battled to break into the star-studded Masandawana first team, and perhaps more game time in new surroundings in KZN could see him become one of the fresh stars of the Absa Premiership.

Once regarded as an ideal replacement for Percy Tau, who has joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League, Makgalwa will need to make a big impression for Fadlu Davids’ outfit in an attempt to catch the eye of Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane for a possible return to the Brazilians in future.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg received another boost on Tuesday as striker Andrea Fileccia passed a fitness test, which means that he will be able to face Free State Stars on Wednesday night at Goble Park in Bethlehem (7.30pm kickoff).

Davids will hope his team can bounce back from the 2-0 defeat at home in their league opener against KZN rivals Golden Arrows at the weekend.
