Kaizer Chiefs have been forced to change the venue of their upcoming match against SuperSport United to Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

The Amakhosi stated on their website on Tuesday that the decision to host the Premiership game on December 12 in Mpumalanga was due to the condition of the pitch at FNB Stadium, where the match was originally scheduled to take place.

Chiefs said that the pitch condition was due to “three major events” that have taken place at the 2010 Fifa World Cup final venue.

The latest of those came on Sunday, where the Global Citizen concert saw the stadium packed to capacity as the likes of Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ed Sheeran and Cassper Nyovest performed.

Before that, a Guns N’ Roses concert and a prayer event was held there during November.

Coach Giovanni Solinas will hope that Chiefs can get back to winning ways against SuperSport United after they went down 2-1 to Zimamoto in the Caf Confederation Cup in Zanzibar on Tuesday.

The Amakhosi still went through to the next round, having clinched the tie 5-2 after winning the first leg 4-0.
