DURBAN – Maritzburg United are very much aware of the threat posed by giant killers Polokwane City.

The Team of Choice face Rise and Shine at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane today at 3.30pm in an Absa Premiership tussle.

Polokwane have achieved some big results this season, beating the likes of Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United in the league.

So coach at Maritzburg, Fadlu Davids, is fully aware about the task facing his side.

“We are definitely the underdogs going in to Polokwane. You can see that with their position on the log and what they have done so far. It is going to be a tough game for us,” Davids explained.

United, though, are oozing with confidence having showed character coming from a goal behind to beat Highlands Park 2-1 in the Telkom Knockout last weekend at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Davids took plenty of positives from that game. “We have to build on this and we have to correct a few things. But we can take a lot of positives coming from that goal behind against Highlands.

“We scored two goals and we could have scored more. Let us take it a step forward, and it will be a new game when we face City,” the coach said.

United are unbeaten in their last six matches in the league. And they will be looking to keep that record intact in Polokwane.

Davids is expected to field some of the team’s stars that he rested last week against Highlands Park.

Andrea Fileccia, Pogiso Senoka and Richard Ofori weren’t in the 18-man squad last week, and Yannick Zakri and Keletso Makgwala started from the bench.

United have been solid as a rock at the back in the last few matches in the league.

They have kept five clean-sheets on the trot and Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits, Bloemfontein Celtic, AmaZulu and Cape Town City have all failed to find the back of the net against them.

Polokwane, of course, will be hoping to ruin that impressive run.
