Looking ahead to Thursday, the women’s golf competition will begin with Ashleigh Buhai and Paula Reto looking to win a first-ever Olympic medal on the fairways for South Africa.

This comes after SA’s last big medal hope, Prudence Sekgodiso was unable to replicate her earlier form this season in the women’s 800m final on Monday evening. The 22-year-old contended strongly, before fading badly in the final straight to finish eighth.

Wayde van Niekerk will be in action in the men’s 200m semi-finals starting at 8pm.
