In a surprise move, renowned radio presenter DJ Sbu has announced his resignation from Radio 2000.

The seasoned broadcaster succeeded Glen Lewis, who resigned last March to join Kaya FM.

DJ Sbu, whose real name is Sibusiso Leope, released a statement on Monday morning, revealing that his decision to resign came earlier than expected, as his contract was set to end on March 30, 2025.

“This serves to inform you that after much reflection and consideration, I have made the decision to resign as a morning radio host at Radio 2000, part of the South African Broadcasting Corporation.”

He added that the decision was difficult, as his time at Radio 2000 had been filled with invaluable experiences, cherished memories, and the joy of engaging with his audience. “I am deeply grateful for the support I have received from my colleagues, management, and, most importantly, our loyal listeners.“

Leope further shared that he is gearing up to debut a new breakfast show on a different platform in April 1.

“I am preparing for a brand new breakfast morning show that I am excited to launch on a different platform starting from April 1, 2025. This new opportunity presents a fresh chapter in my career, and I am eager to embrace the possibilities that lie ahead,” he said.

Leope thanked everyone who supported him throughout his journey.

“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey. Your encouragement and engagement have meant the world to me, and I look forward to staying connected with you in my future endeavours,” he said.

Leope made his return to national radio last year after nearly a decade, following his dismissal from Metro FM in 2015 for promoting his MoFaya energy drink during a live broadcast of the station’s annual awards.
