Damage from extreme weather can not only be costly to fix but make life unpleasant until it can be repaired, says Adrian Goslett, regional director and chief executive of Re/Max of Southern Africa.
“The repair work often takes longer to complete in stormy conditions. To avoid this, homeowners should do a bit of maintenance around their home to protect against the weather.”
The first place to start is the exterior, including checking the chimney flue and outside drains for blockages, and conducting a roof inspection to check for loose tiles or roof sheets.
Pools should be covered so they don’t collect debris and large trees and shrubs near the home should be cut back in case of strong winds.
Goslett also recommends homeowners check insurance policies to see if they are covered for damage that occurs from extreme weather conditions.
