Auctioneers moving with the times

“As live auctions were banned, we had to seek other ways to continue auctioning. “We had experience in timed auctions for movable goods, but the property market involves far higher values, and calls for the skill of the auctioneer. After some experimentation, we decided that ZOOM video sales would be ideal to bring clients and auctioneer together, live and online.

“Our first live online auction on May 14 proved a massive success as far as property sales were concerned. We found that clients who had registered were experienced about the property market and aware of the benefits of online bidding. It saved them the hassle of driving to the auction venue and they could participate from home, office or anywhere.

“Online auctions have also greatly increased our national reach with even bidders in distant Johannesburg and other parts of South Africa now potential buyers,” Wyles says.

Wyles Auctioneers’s next online auction, on August 26 at 11am at the Durban Country Club, will hopefully also include Covid-19-compliant live attendance. For details, call Andrew Giddy at 082 601 9278 or email andrew@ ianwyles.co.za or visit www.ianwyles.co.za.
