The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for the Western Cape, anticipating damaging winds from Wednesday evening until Friday.
Residents and visitors in the region are advised to brace for strong south-easterly gusts ranging from 50 to 70 km/h, with peaks reaching up to 90 km/h specifically between Saldanha and Plettenberg Bay.
Sonica Lategan, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management, emphasises the potential impacts of this weather phenomenon.
With these strong winds forecasted, the public is urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their belongings and homes. Items that may be easily carried away by the wind, such as outdoor furniture, should be secured to prevent them from becoming dangerous projectiles.
In addition to the threat of property damage, which may include uprooted trees and compromised roofs, the warning highlights an elevated risk of runaway fires.

"With the winds being as potent as they are, the dry conditions in many areas could lead to alarming fire behaviour," said Lategan.
She reiterated the importance of vigilance, especially for those living close to the ignition-prone locations.
Residents should also remain mindful of how these conditions could affect structures such as garage doors, sliding doors, and windows.
"It's crucial to ensure these are adequately secured to withstand the added pressure of high winds," Lategan added.
The marine community is also urged to heed the warning. Smaller vessels are likely to face difficulties navigating at sea due to the turbulent wind conditions. Owners are strongly advised to seek shelter and avoid venturing onto open waters during this period.
For anyone experiencing weather-related emergencies, assistance can be sought by contacting the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre at 021 480 7700.
