A man survived a horror crash on Wednesday on the M19 in the Pinetown area, west of Durban.

According to ALS Paramedis the man had to be airlifted to hospital.

The accident took place just before 9am under the Otto Volek bridge.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the driver of the single vehile accident somehow lost control and rolled multiple times before colliding with the concrete bridge.

He said the driver was placed on a manual ventilator and was in a critical condition.

Jamieson said due to the severe injuries, a decision was taken to airlift the patient to a nearby hospital for the urgent, critical care needed.

He advised all motorists to avoid the area at all cost.

Less than 24 hours ago, a man died in a horror head-on collision between a car and a truck on the Hammarsdale main road, just of the N3.

The accident took place at around 1pm.

Jamieson said paramedics arrived on scene to find total carnage.

“A light motor vehicle and a truck collided head on. Paramedics assessed the scene and found that the light motor vehicle had a single occupant, a driver that sustained major injuries.”

Jamieson said he was severely entrapped in the wreckage and there was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the truck sustained moderate injuries.
