Missing Durban man found dead in South Beach

A 30-year-old Durban man, who had been reported last week, has been found dead after his body washed onto shore at South Beach, Durban, on Saturday.

Siba Olwethu Dlamini had gone missing last week. His family took to social media seeking assistance in locating their son’s whereabouts. with thousands of people sharing his missing man poster. He had been last seen leaving a Durban hotel on WednesdaY.

KZN police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that an inquest docket was opened and under investigation at the Point Police Station in Durban.

“Police in Point have registered an inquest docket for investigation following an incident in which a body of a 30-year-old man was recovered at South Beach, Durban on September 4,” said Ngcobo.

IOL reached out to Dlamini’s family, but they reserved their comments.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson, Prem Balram, said they received a confirmation that the deceased was last seen booking into a hotel in Durban on Wednesday.

“The Avoca - KwaZulu-Natal resident left his hotel on Wednesday, September 4, at approximately 10pm.

“CCTV footage showed him walking in the direction of the beach. He could not be located since,” said Balram.

In the hotel room that he was located in, the employees found all his possessions including his cellphone and car keys.

Rusa received information on Saturday about a body that was washed off to shore at South Beach the day after he was reported missing.

The family then proceeded to the Phoenix Mortuary where they identified Dlamini’s body.
