Pizza company, Roman’s Pizza on Thursday said it launched an investigation following a viral video showing a woman captured cleaning used pizza boxes, allegedly to be reused at its franchise in Daveyton, in Mayfield Square Shopping Centre.
In the video, that has since gone viral and caused an uproar on social media, a woman can be seen cleaning used pizza boxes, allegedly preparing and packing them to be reused again for packaging.
The woman in the video is dressed in the franchise’s work uniform and seen taking used pizza boxes from a waste plastic bag.

Amid the video footage going viral, social media users expressed outrage and many were left concerned about safety regulations and customers' health.
In response to the video, Roman’s Pizza Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Nicolakakis confirmed that the incident occurred at one of the franchise branches in Daveyton, at Mayfield Square Shopping Centre.
Nicolakakis said they have taken measures to address concerns raised by the public following the viral video.
“We want to assure our valued customers and the public that this is not a practice within our brand.”
He said they are taking this matter extremely seriously and have launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
“We will leave no box unturned to ensure that our high standards are upheld. Our customers' trust and loyalty are paramount to us, and we are deeply disturbed by this incident.”
Nicolakakis has assured angry customers that they are probing the matter thoroughly and will take swift action to address any non-compliance with their standards.
“At Roman's Pizza, we take pride in our customer service and adhere to strict operational protocols to ensure the quality and safety of our products, he said.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any behaviour that compromises our brand, products, procedures, and hygiene standards.”
In addition, he said the actions of the employee in the video do not reflect the standard practices of their organisation.
