The Maitland Flying Squad successfully detained four suspects on Saturday in separate incidents involving unlawful crayfish possession, armed robbery, and the possession of an imitation firearm.
Acting on intelligence, officers tactically approached a property in 20th Avenue in Kensington.
A search of the premises led to the discovery of 434 crayfish and 3,374 crayfish tails, resulting in the arrest of a 51-year-old man for unlawful possession.
West Coast Rock Lobster (Crayfish) Fishing Regulations 2024/2025
The 2024/2025 West Coast Rock Lobster season in Cape Town runs from 16 December 2024 to 30 March 2025, allowing fishing on designated days between 8 AM and 4 PM.
The daily bag limit is four crayfish per person, with a minimum legal size of 80mm carapace length.
Armed Robbery & High-Speed Chase in Brooklyn
In a separate incident, officers responded to an armed robbery in the Lansdowne policing precinct.
They identified the suspect vehicle in Brooklyn, initiating a high-speed chase.
Once the vehicle was forced to stop, a search uncovered an imitation firearm, leading to the arrest of three suspects aged 24 to 31 for armed robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town and Athlone Magistrate’s Courts.
