The evergreen Fiat 500 hatchback has been given a subtle refresh, with updates to the range aimed at enhancing the value proposition.
The model range has been consolidated into three models, with a new naming convention. Buyers can choose from 500 Base, 500 Style and 500C Style Cabrio models, all powered by Fiat’s 1.2-litre engine with automated five-speed MTA transmission, developing 51kW and 102Nm. The two-cylinder turbo engine from the previous range is no longer offered.
The Base version is priced at R308,900, while the Style will set you back R349,900 in its conventional tin-top format or R379,900 in ‘500C’ Cabrio format.

When it comes to features, the 500 is well stocked across the board with even the entry model sporting 15-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and CarPlay, steering wheel controls, front electric windows, seven airbags, DSC stability control and Tyre Pressure Monitor System.
The Style model rolls on 16-inch alloys and also comes with automatic air conditioning, cruise control, rear parking sensors and additional speakers in the rear.

However, the current version’s tenure could be short lived, with reports from abroad stating that the first-generation 500 model, which has been on sale for 17 years, will cease production in Europe this year.
Fiat offers an electric-only second-generation 500 hatchback in Europe, whose production is currently suspended due to low demand. However, a hybrid version is expected to be introduced in 2025.
