Twin-turbo R8 ‘should do 360’

If lots is good, they say, more is better and too much is just right. Say hello to the MTM Audi R8 V10 Biturbo - all 571kW and 888Nm of it.

This distinctly unsubtle, all-chrome road rocket will make its public debut at this week's Geneva motor show and, even if does attract unwelcome attention from the cops, they'll be unlikely to catch it.

German tuning haus MTM, which built it (yes, there is only one), says it should be good for more than 360km/h, although the best they've achieved thus far is “only” 347.6.

In addition to a highly-tuned, five-litre V8 force-fed by two hairdryers, the MTM R8 quattro also has revised suspension, upgraded brakes with eight-piston callipers, a new six-speed manual gearbox, and a new front lip and rear spoiler. It runs on 20” rims wrapped in Michelin PS2 rubber (only the French would name a tyre after a video-gaming console!)

Price? For you, sir, just €400 000 (R3.85 million) before taxes.
