Mazda concepts zoom-zoom to SEMA

With only a day to go before the opening of the 2011 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association show in Las Vegas, Mazda has sent out these pictures of two concepts it will show at the world's largest aftermarket expo.

The Mazda MX-5 Spyder has a remodelled, lower and sleeker front end with body kit to match, bigger alloy rims, lowered suspension and a tent-like fabric roof reminiscent of that used by Porsche on their Boxster Spyder not too long ago.

Mazda's not saying anything about the mechanicals, which means they're probably stock, nor will they say what's under the bonnet of the Mazda2 Turbo, other than that it has "one of our most powerful turbocharged engines in our lightest platform."

If that means they've dropped a 190kW 2.3-litre DISI engine in there to create what should by rights have been called the Mazda2 MPS, we want one, even though we know it will torque-steer like a bastard!
