Durban - Six people were injured in a collision on uMhlanga Rocks Drive in Somerset Park, uMhlanga on Tuesday.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon, paramedics responded to a collision involving a bakkie and car.
He said when medics arrived on scene they found multiple patients on the floor surrounding the collision site.
“One person, an adult male driver, was found trapped in the car,” said Herbst.
Herbst said eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services, Durban North SAPS, Marshall Security, Emer-G-Med and Government EMS were also on the scene.
“On arrival on scene a light delivery vehicle and a Fiat Uno were found to have collided head-on at high impact,” said Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.
Van Reenen said the driver of the Fiat as well as a passenger from the bakkie suffered critical injuries and advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise them.
He said the two critical patients were transported rapidly by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further medical care.
“At least four other men suffered moderate injuries and were treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” said Van Reenen.
He said traffic in the area was severely affected as the roadway was closed to allow emergency personnel to clear the scene.
