A devastating accident on the R617 near Mafakatini has resulted in the loss of three lives, with an eight-year-old boy in critical condition. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, involved a single vehicle that rolled multiple times, ejecting all occupants from the car.

Emergency services, including Midlands EMS Advanced Life Support paramedics, were swiftly dispatched to the scene.

Two occupants were declared dead at the scene due to the severity of their injuries. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.

The other two occupants, one of whom is an eight-year-old boy, were found in critical condition. Paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise them on site, placing both patients on manual ventilators in a bid to save their lives.

“On arrival, it was found that a single vehicle had rolled multiple times, ejecting all the occupants. Two people sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased at the scene. Two other people were found to be in critical condition, including an eight-year-old child. Both patients were placed on manual ventilators at the scene,” said an emergency services official.

Despite the best efforts of the medical teams, one of the critically injured patients succumbed to their injuries, leaving the eight-year-old sole survivor in a critical condition.

Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, leading to the rollover. However, the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by local authorities.
