Durban -The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) said that peak traffic conditions are expected later this week.

Thania Dhoogra, operations manager of N3TC, said the loss of concentration or distractions were often cited as the cause of crashes.

“Safe driving requires that you focus your undivided attention on a multitude of sensory stimulants and that you are able to make sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.”

Dhoogra added that motorists should avoid distractions while driving.

“Avoid distractions, such as using your mobile devices or allowing interference from your passengers, while you are driving. Make sure that you stay alert at all times and take regular breaks to rest and refresh yourself, especially when your concentration starts to wane.”

Dhoogra said that motorists should plan their route carefully and stay informed of road and traffic conditions up ahead.

“Traffic volumes, the time of day or night, weather conditions, emergency situations and general road conditions impact on safety, mobility and convenience on the road. It is advisable to travel outside of peak periods, when volumes are high, and the demands on drivers escalate.”

Dhoogra added that Friday and Saturday would be the busiest days for traffic.

She provided a forecast of expected traffic volumes and peak conditions on the N3 Toll Route in a southbound direction (towards KwaZulu-Natal) this week.

Slow moving conditions are expected when traffic volumes are high. High (heavy) volumes constitute more than 1500 vehicles per hour in a particular direction.
