The fashion week season is in full swing as we have just wrapped up the New York Fashion Week, where one of the South African brands Almond Ant was participating.
This spring/summer season, fashion fanatics are about to be spoilt for choice with both local and international fashion shows that will set the tone for the upcoming trends.
So, if you want to be up-to-date with what’s hot and what’s not this season, these are the top four fashion shows you shouldn’t miss.
The Durban Fashion Fair
From September 18-20, The Station Urban Event Space will be turned into a fashion frenzy as 70 designers from across Africa showcase their collections. There will also be a pop-up shop featuring locally manufactured fashion products.
“The DFF is one of the City’s Fashion Development Programme’s components aimed at providing skills development, capacity building, and access to market opportunities. The DFF showcase is proudly Durban and encourages the public to ‘buy local’ and support the up-and-coming talents of tomorrow,” the chairperson of the city’s Economic Development and Planning Committee Councillor Thembo Ntuli said.
South African Fashion Week
South African Fashion Week will take place at its new venue in Melrose Arch on September 24-28. While established names like Mantsho, Erre, House of Olé, Naked Ape, Floyd Avenue, Artho Eksteen, Fikile Sokhulu, and Thabo Makhetha will be unveiling their new collections, all eyes will be on the emerging designers who made it to the Mr Price Scouting Menswear Competition. This one is for the books because the retailer will be wrapping its partnership with SA Fashion Week.
Paris Fashion Week
While South Africans will be treated to a live show at SA Fashion Week, they can also check out Paris Fashion Week online, which will take place from September 23 until October 1. What’s special about this season is that Maxhosa Africa will be showcasing on September 27 and is the only African brand on the Paris Fashion Week calendar.
Moscow Fashion Week
On October 4-9, over 70 brands from all over the world showcase their collections. These will include fashion brands under the BRICS+ umbrella. Some of the South African brands that have been showcased on this platform include renowned designer David Tlale and Boys of Soweto. This season, we are anticipating more brands as the organisation has forged relationships with the South African fashion industry.
