Social media was in a frenzy this week after a video of a Roman’s Pizza employee wiping off used boxes, allegedly for reuse surfaced.

According to the restaurant, the incident happened at their franchised branch in Daveyton at Mayfield Square Shopping Centre.

Taking to X, @lekoloanemanam2 wrote: “One of the many reasons I stopped eating fast food, it's now been 9 years.”

@ZengFuey wrote: “This is extreme recycling.”

@Mashambamm questioned: “How expensive are these boxes?”

@mr_charleseze commented: “This person intentionally wants to kill this business just by this single act, or maybe this has been happening for far too long. We need a clear explanation. This is not just enough to condemn it via a statement released. We need a thorough audit.”

Another user @archidelly38 wrote: “They want rob the owner as they count boxes for sales for those buying in cash.”

In response to the circulating video, the chief executive officer of Roman’s Pizza John Nicolakakis said they have launched an investigation into the incident.

“We are taking this matter extremely seriously and have launched a thorough investigation into the incident. We will leave no box unturned to ensure that our high standards are upheld.

“Our customers' trust and loyalty are paramount to us, and we are deeply disturbed by this incident.

“We want to assure our customers that we are investigating this matter thoroughly and will take swift action to address any non-compliance with our standards,” said Nicolakakis.

He added that they want to assure their valued customers and the public that this is not a practice within their brand.

“At Roman's Pizza, we take pride in our customer service and adhere to strict operational protocols to ensure the quality and safety of our products.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any behaviour that compromises our brand, products, procedures, and hygiene standards. The actions of the employees in the video do not reflect the standard practices of our organisation,” said Nicolakakis.
