Heritage Day is a celebration of South African culture and the diversity of their beliefs and tradition. This holiday celebrated on September 24.

On this day, South Africans celebrate their culture through traditional attire, music and food.

As we move closer to Heritage Day, IOL looks at five restaurants in Durban where you can have your Heritage Day lunch celebration with your loved one.

1. Nguni Foods

Nguni Foods is a South African restaurant located in Davenport square, Glenwood, Durban. The restaurant is inspired by the beautiful and colourful Nguni culture.

From the Zulu, Xhosa, Swati, Ndebele culture. They also draw a bit of inspiration from the Sotho and Tswana culture.

2. Pula by Iyanas

Pula by Iyanas Restaurant - located in Davenport Square, Glenwood, Durban - is known for its unique indoor and outdoor seating areas adorned with vibrant colours. They serve usu (Tripe), inhloko (Cows head), steamed bread, uphuthu (krummelpap) and many more. They are also open for both sit ins and takeaways.

3. Max’s Lifestyle

Max’s Lifestyle is one of the best restaurants in Umlazi, Durban.

They serve traditional food like chicken feet, tripe, cows head, isigwaqane (beans and maize meal), spinach, butternut and many more traditional foods.

4. Palesa African Cuisine

5. Nkonzo’s Kitchen

This year’s Heritage Day you can visit Nkonzo’s Kitchen to dine in some traditional foods including meals like tripe, dumplings, steam bread, samp, isigwaqane (beans and maize meal). This restaurant is located in Durban Central.
