Two days after a shooting left two dead and two injured, AuthentiQ Bar & Restaurant has issued a statement.
The incident happened just after 1am on Tuesday, September 17.
Director ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson said on arrival, paramedics found Metro Police in attendance with multiple security personnel. Paramedics were shown to where four people were lying. Three men and one woman had been shot.
Jamieson said two other men sustained gunshot wounds to their upper body and were transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required.
He added that at this stage the events leading up to the shooting are unknown, however, it is alleged it was a domestic dispute and the South African Police Service will be investigating further.
KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda told IOL that police in Berea are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder following an incident in which a man shot and killed his girlfriend at a restaurant on Florida Road,
“It is alleged the woman went out to meet him only for him to draw his service pistol and fire shots at her.
“The victim ran back inside the restaurant and the man followed her as he continued shooting. She was declared dead at the scene.”
“Metro Police officers who were patrolling the area witnessed the incident and reacted and the suspect was also shot and taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.”
In their statement, the team at AuthentiQ Bar & Restaurant said they ask for understanding and patience as they navigate through the emotional impact the incident has had on their staff and operations.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of a beloved member of our team. During this difficult time, we ask for your understanding and patience as we navigate through the emotional impact this has had on our staff and operations.
“While we remain committed to providing the quality of service you expect, there may be moments where we are not at our best. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and deeply appreciate your continued kindness and support.
“Thank you for being part of our community, and for your compassion as we honour the memory of our colleague,” they said.
On social media, people are questioning the safety of the Florida Road strip as the incident follows that of rapper AKA and chef Tibz, who were gunned down just next door at Wish, which has since been rebranded to Maison Florida Road.
