Gwyn Makhanya, a Durbanite in her own right, is poised to captivate her audience with her new single, "Saturday," officially launching this week under Black City Records (BCR). This song marks an exciting departure from her previous chart-topping hit "Radio," diving into the popular Amapiano genre.

Makhanya topped the East Coast Radio charts in both July and January, and describes "Saturday" as a vibrant tribute to her hometown.

“This song is authentically home, and has a whole vibe,” Makhanya said. “It reflects the city of Durban, its people, and cultures. It’s a celebration of what the city has to offer and is a sonic love letter to Durban.”

Director and songwriter Yogan Naidoo, who has been with BCR for several years, said he has high hopes for the new track. “We have been in the music business for quite a while now and are quietly confident that Saturday has all the right ingredients to succeed,” Naidoo noted. “Hopefully, the fans will think so too.”

In addition to the song release, Black City Records said they were thrilled to announce the launch of the Saturday Vibe dance challenge.

This exciting initiative, choreographed by the internationally acclaimed Senzosenkosi Bhengu, popularly known as Verb, invites participants of all ages and experience levels to show off their dance skills.

Verb is a celebrated figure in the dance world with accolades such as the 2023 Red Bull Dance Your Style National Winner. This time around he will collaborate with three of South Africa's top Red Bull Dance Your Style provincial champions for the challenge.

Participants in the dance challenge will have a chance to be featured in the upcoming “Saturday” music video, directed by the award-winning filmmaker Valencia Joshua of Dream Lab Productions.

Joshua, who also directed the video for Gwyn’s hit Radio, highlighted the inclusivity of the challenge. Joshua emphasised how for the shoot they would want everyone to jump onto this challenge, as it is not just for dancers.

The single can also be listened to on all major digital platforms.
