Celebrate South Africa’s three decades of democracy with some of the best in music, food and culture at the DStv Delicious Festival.
“Come and explore an exciting array of local offerings at South Africa’s premier food festival, where music, art, fashion and cuisine will fuse in a glorious celebration of 30 years of creative freedom,” the organisers said.
They added that this year’s gathering will be expanded to not only include delicious food and lively music but also art and fashion.
While R&B headline act Janet Jackson had to pull out due to the death of her brother, Tito Jackson, organisers have secured Busta Rhymes and Jason Derulo as the replacement headliner acts.
They will both perform on Saturday, with American superstar Jill Scott headlining the Sunday show.
Local acts who are billed to perform over the two-day gathering include Cassper Nyovest, Lady Zamar Thandiswa Mazwai, G-Force, Legends Live by Oskido, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Sjava and The Maestro (Greg Maloka).
Others who will take to the stage will be include Boom Shaka, Focalistic, Khuli Chana, Maggz, Morafe, Okmalumkoolkat, Reason, Robot Boii and Touchline, Mzwakhe Mbuli SNR, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Zolani Mahola.
There will also be musical tributes to Kiernan “AKA”, HHP, Lebo Mathosa, Mandoza, Pro Kid, Johnny Clegg and Riky Rick.
The festival will also feature an abundance of food offerings from all corners of the world, including local cuisines. From curries to spicy chicken, seafood, a variety of burgers as well as Asian and Mexican-inspired cuisines, there is something for everyone.
If you are craving comfort food, there will be deep-dish pizza, ribs, loaded fries, stuffed jalapeño poppers and BBQ brisket.
There will also be ample vegetarian and vegan fare on the festival menu, including Lebanese falafel wraps, veggie burgers and coconut fried rice as well as a variety of snacks, sweet treats and beverages.

Smokie’s 45th Anniversary World Tour in South Africa
British supergroup Smokie are bringing their unique blend of rock and country to Johannesburg.
The five-piece band is composed of lead singer and guitarist Pete Lincoln, Luke Bullard on backing vocals and bass guitar; Mick McConnell on backing vocals and lead guitar; Martin Bullard on keyboard; and Steve Pinnell on drums and percussion.
Their City of Gold performance is part of their “Smokie’s 45th Anniversary World Tour in South Africa”, which is presented by Lefra Productions.
They also took to the stage in Pretoria and Gqberha before their Joburg concert.
“The wait is over South Africa as the band that has been making hearts sing and feet stomp for decades finally arrives in town, armed with an arsenal of hits like ‘Oh Carol’, ‘Living Next Door to Alice’, ‘Lay Back in The Arms of Someone’, and many more,” the organisers said in a statement.
They added: “With their signature sound that’s equal parts catchy, soulful and rebellious, Smokie is set to ignite the stage and leave a trail of smoking hot memories in their wake.
“It is time to dust off those cowboy boots, gather your friends and get ready to party as Smokie rides into Carnival City to create memories that will last a lifetime.”

Spring to Zoo Life Concert
Joburg City Theatres is hosting a fun-filled and family-friendly musical celebration to mark the arrival of spring, with a wonderful blend of entertainment and family fun.
“As the flowers bloom and the animals revel in the warmer weather, guests are invited to explore engaging activities and performances designed to captivate visitors of all ages celebrating the renewal and beauty of nature,” a statement read.
One of the highlights of the gathering will be the top musical acts. They include Matthew Mole, Shekhinah, Tamara Dey, Locnville and Vin Deysel.
There will also be a kids’ play area which will be supervised by child minders. It will include jumping castles, parachute rides and carnival stalls.
There will also be sand art, a mask-making workshop, face painters, airbrush tattoos, a magic show and a competitions where various prizes can be won.
Where: The Joburg Zoo in Parkview.
When: Saturday, September 21, from 11am. Gates open at 10am.

South Africa’s Best Comedy Experience
Simphiwe Majozi is hosting this comedy showcase which coincides with South Africa's celebration of democracy.
“One of the fundamental objectives of this event is to stage the best and biggest comedy show in South Africa and create a platform for upcoming comedians,” the organisers said.
“This will happen through a talent search that will take place across the country prior to the main event.”
Those who will perform include Skhumba, Felix Hlophe, Tumi Morake, Simphiwe Shembe and Mashabela.
Where: The Mandela Theatre at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein.
