Mzansi, prepare for a weekend filled with laughter! Showmax has announced that award-winning US actor and comedian, Deon Cole, will be the headline act at this year's Laugh Africa Comedy Festival. 

Laugh Africa Comedy Festival is a three-day festival that celebrates comedy by blending different languages and cultures - an experience that provides both well-known and new comedians an opportunity to celebrate comedic artistry. 

Cole is an award-winning and Emmy-nominated US actor and comedian popularly known for appearing on beloved and globally recognised television shows such as, “Black-ish”, which earned him two nominations at the NAACP awards.

The actor has also appeared in numerous popular movies and television shows such as "Barbershop", "The Color Purple", as well as "Holiday Rush". 

The comedian has numerous awards including ten NAACP awards and a one-time Emmy nominee. 

“I love South Africa - the energy and vibe are pure magic, and I’m beyond excited to be the headline act at the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival."

“Trust me, we’re going to make some unforgettable memories together!” the 53-year-old said excitedly.

Cole will be headlining two nights as the international act of the three-day festival.

The creative director of the festival, Stuart Taylor said they are excited to welcome Cole to the continent and thrilled to have him as a part of the festival. 

“Deon Cole is a standout performer in modern comedy. He has cemented his reputation both in the United States and internationally, and we are thrilled to have him as our headline act at the Laugh Africa Comedy Festival this year,” Taylor said. 

Tracy Van Rooyen, the executive head of content strategy at Showmax added that Cole is a powerhouse that is effortlessly funny and they are excited to bring him to SA for this festival.

∎ The Laugh Africa Comedy Festival will take place from Friday, May 2, until Sunday, May 4, at the Sandton Convention Centre.
