Podcaster L-Tido recently hosted one of the most controversial reality TV stars to hit our screens this year.

Khanya Nqolase, who was one of the cast members on Netflix’s “The Ultimatum: South Africa”, chopped it up with him on his “L-Tido” podcast about being made out to be the villain on the show and not being paid her worth, among other things.

She said: “The show got the ratings that it did because of me. I am/was the main character, I carried the show, so the backlash came with that … I just ruffled some feathers, made some people feel uncomfortable, it comes with the territory.

“I could have maintained a fake persona for a couple of weeks, but I decided that I wanted to show up as my broken, hurting, real self, take it or leave it. That’s when I realised that people always say keep it real, authentic, but no one is really ready for that.”

She shared that the show was unscripted; however, there were certain scenarios that were orchestrated.

Nqolase told L-Tido that she didn’t feel like she was fully compensated for her contribution to making the show successful.

“I wish I got money for that. I don’t know if royalties apply to reality TV, but it should be. The production team used to thank me, but I’m thinking where is my money. You can’t keep patting me on the back and giving me high fives.”

She claimed that there was “no formal payment” from the streaming giant, instead the cast was given “pocket money” which they used to buy food and other things.

“I think talent being exploited in this country has been a thing for years now. I am just shocked certain things are still not in place regarding that …

“Going into the show, you assume that compensation and stuff will follow in terms of how well the show does …

“The viewership was really good, so I was very disappointed when I found out that no, that has got nothing to do with you, even though I’m the reason the show got all the ratings that it got.”
