Netflix's romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This” has been renewed for a second season just weeks after its debut.
Starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, the series has garnered widespread acclaim and impressive viewership numbers.
The show, loosely based on creator Erin Foster's life, explores an unexpected relationship between a rabbi named Noah (Brody) and Joanne (Bell), an agnostic podcast host.
Their relationship has been praised for presenting a healthy relationship as they overcome their differing outlooks on life, the modern obstacles to love as well as their often well-meaning but sometimes sabotaging families, including her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) and his brother Sasha (Timothy Simons).
The Hollywood stars have also been lauded for the on-screen chemistry with the show, which premiered on September 26, being amongst the Most Watched programs on the streamer in several countries, including South Africa, the US and the UK.
As it continues to dominate conversations on social media, the series garnered an impressive 26.2M views in its first 11 days.
The hit show was written by Foster, who also serves as an executive producer with her sister Sara Foster. This was a personal project for Erin as it is loosely based on her own life as she converted to Judaism and married her husband Simon Tikhman. They now have a 5-month-old daughter.
While an official release date as well as other details pertaining to the second offering has not been announced yet, it is expected to pick up with Joanne’s struggles to convert to Judaism as well as the couple attempting to fuse their vastly different lifestyles.
“Deadline” has also reported that the sisters will return as executive producers, while “Girls” alums Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan have also come on board as executive producers and showrunners for season 2.
They will be joined by Nora Silver, Bell, Steven Levitan, Oly Obst, Danielle Stokdyk and Jeff Morton.
Erin recently told the publication: “Creating ‘Nobody Wants This’ will forever be a career highlight for me.”
“The incredible cast, crew, producers and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers’ reactions to this series now that it’s out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed.
“I’m so lucky to be able to continue this story, and to do it alongside Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, who I’ve been such a fan of since Girls … Justice for healthy relationships being the most romantic.”
She added that her priority will remain writing for the series, which will continue to reflect her vision.
Konner added: “It’s a dream to be working on ‘Nobody Wants This’.”
“I am excited beyond belief to be a part of season 2, created by the hilarious Erin Foster. It is such a unique and beautiful show and I am already having the best time working on it.”
