Twitter got excited last week after a tweet by CBS Miami reporter Lisa Petrillo claimed she spotted Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, walking her dog close to Kensington Palace.

A woman who resembles Meghan can be seen walking a dog, Petrillo claimed that the woman even scooped up her dog's poop.

So incredibly enough, walking by @kensingtonroyal-we spotted this beautiful, woman with a familiar air”outside the entrance to the private residence where Harry& Meghan live . MEGHAN!? her dog was doing his business. She couldn’t have been sweeter. #princessespickuppooptoo pic.twitter.com/G0SkQelmPE

But it's now been revealed that the snap that got everyone excited was, in fact, a case of "mistaken identity". Royal commentator Omid Scobie tweeted that the Duchess is not the woman in the dog-walking picture.

Appreciate all the DM’s (Hi!), but that’s not the Duchess of Sussex🐶

Scobie told BAZAAR.com, "Right time, right place, but I’m afraid it’s not the Duchess in that photo."

Fans, however, were not convinced because they believe Petrillo wouldn't make it up.

V curious as to why an entertainment reporter - aka a legit journalist who covers this space and suggested she talked to her - would make such a thing up?

Meghan is also a self-confessed dog lover, and the Royal couple reportedly adopted a Labrador after the former actress' beloved beagle named Guy who now lives with friends since she moved to UK after marrying Prince Harry.
