On Tuesday, US artist Gordo and Drake released a music video titled ‘Healing’, which paid homage to a South African TikTok star, who is popular for his dance videos on the platform.

The ‘Healing’ music video is in the form of a short documentary featuring Emmanuel Madonsela also known as ‘The Don Madfunz’ on TikTok.

The music video is directed and edited by Theo Skudra. The music video was posted on Gordo’s YouTube channel and written in the description box, the artist said:

“About 2 months ago while I was scrolling through TikTok, I stumbled upon THE DON Madfunz, a guy from South Africa with amazing energy. His taste in music grabbed my attention, but it was his dancing, smile and story that really hooked me.”

The music video was filmed in Madonsela’s Dududu home town in KwaZulu-Natal. Dududu is a small rural area in the South Coast of the KwaZulu-Natal province.

The video opens with Madonsela explaining his and his family’s everyday morning routine, including his wife and children. He narrates that they leave early so they can take a very slow walk, talking, laughing and reminiscing.

While walking he says a small prayer at the back of his head that says: ”God, give me a chance to have a car. This queen here she can’t do this all her life.”

They capture his everyday life, sharing his joys and positivity and resilience. He walks roughly 14 kilometres to work everyday despite the weather or his personal safety.

Towards the end of the video they are told to have a look outside, only to find a car waiting for them as a gift , a prayer finally answered and he was in disbelief while his wife was elated with joy. The car appears to be a VW Polo Vivo.

Gordo shared that while he could not be there, the best part of the whole process was at the end when he surprised Madonsela with a car, seeing his reaction was priceless.

“With this video, I wanted to show that Don’s positive attitude and joyful spirit are something we can all learn from, no matter what we’re going through.

“His story is a reminder that even when life gets tough, you can still find reasons to smile. I hope this video touches your hearts like it did mine,” Gordo says.
