Solly Moholo’s music record, Sony Music Entertainment Africa paid tribute to the legendary gospel artist amid the news of his death.

The 65-year-old singer fell ill in Botswana in August during his pre-album launch tour and had to be hospitalised.

He passed away on Wednesday, October 2, while in hospital.

During his time, Moholo, who was signed to Sony Music Entertainment Africa, gave his local and international fans hit songs and albums like, “Tsoha Jonase”, “Mugabe le Tshangarai”, “Best of Solly Moholo” and “Stop Crime”, among dozens of others.

Among the many tributes from fans, peers and friends that are pouring in, Sean Watson, managing director at Sony Music Entertainment Africa honoured the music icon saying that they have lost a “great friend and colleague”.

“We will miss his bright smile and the dancing light in his eyes that mirrored his sharpest of wits.

“Solly made more than music. He made joy. Even in sorrow, our fondest memory will remain his contagious laughter and his passionate pursuit of putting smiles on the faces of his fans.

“Solly was a legend without peer. He was a champion of hope and an ambassador of optimism.

“We are proud that we were able to offer him a home for his music at Sony and we will honour his trust in us for as long as we are given the privilege of representing his work. We will miss him dearly. We salute you Solly Moholo.”

He continued: “His legacy will live on as someone who gave us healing through his music and hope beyond some of our most difficult challenges through his infectious performances.”

Details of the gospel musician’s memorial service and funeral will be shared on all his official pages in due course.
