Renowned local actress Nomoya Refiloe Dube is set to solidify her newfound music career when she takes to the stage as an opening act for Lauryn Hill and her son YG Marley, in London this month.

The 32-year-old, who goes by the stage name of Moya in the music world, has made a name for herself in the entertainment world by featuring in productions like “The Queen” and “The River”.

Earlier this year, she signed with a new record label managed under Sony Music Entertainment.

With her musical style including elements of Caribbean hip hop, a touch of country and reggae, she released her debut single, “Big Boy Gun” in August.

The Mpumalanga-born artist was meant to make her international music debut a few months ago but things didn't work out as planned.

“I was scheduled to perform in America in July shortly after signing to my record label,” she told “Sowetan Live.”

“Somehow that gig fell through and they told me not to worry; little did I ever think I’d get the chance to tour with Lauryn Hill and her son.”

The Mpumalanga-born artist is thrilled to be sharing the stage with global icons.

“My documents are still being sorted out, I’ll only get to join Lauryn and YG on October 14 in London, but they will be kicking off the tour on October 7. So, it's only a three-day performance that I won’t be with them,” she added to the publication.

Moya also explained how she always dreamt of being a musician.

“When I moved to Joburg years ago, I wanted to become a model and a musician, I just didn’t have someone who could mentor me and show me the ropes hence I resorted to acting.

“But we all know the uncertainty that comes with acting and booking acting gigs,” she said.

She has described the time she spent in the music studio with Snoop Dogg as “surreal”.

“I love how American artists take talent seriously. They treat you with the respect you deserve,” she said.

“He was such a safe space and such a vibe. He told me how much he loved my accent. I just can’t wait for the release date to be announced for our song so that people can hear it.”

Moya previously told “Zimoja” that she has also featured on a song with Snoop Dogg, B Taylor as well as another one with the “It’s on Me”’ hitmaker and Flo Rida.

"Both those are not my songs, but I am a feature, and for them to see my potential is a big deal.”

"I don't know when they plan to release that music but I know people will love the music.”
