Now we’re all a bit over the endless headlines about P. Diddy and his messy scandals, right?
But it seems some people are trying to bring a little levity to the situation — maybe just a tad too much. Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser found herself in the hot seat after a “disgusting” Diddy joke during her opening monologue.
Glaser, making history as the first woman to host the Globes in its 82-year run, was mostly a hit with the Hollywood crowd.
She had the room laughing with her playful jabs at Timothée Chalamet and Adam Sandler. But when she brought up Diddy, things quickly went south.
Addressing Zendaya, Glaser said: “Zendaya, you were incredible in ‘Dune’ ... and ‘Challengers’, girl? That movie was more sexually-charged than Diddy’s credit card. I mean, seriously.” Yikes.
The room full of A-listers groaned at the mention of Diddy, and the joke fell flat.
Glaser tried to recover, joking about the afterparty not being the same without Diddy: “I’m sorry – I’m upset too. The afterparty is not going to be as good this year, but we have to move on! I know a Stanley Tucci freak off doesn’t have the same ring to it. No baby oil this year, just lots of olive oil.”
But the damage was done with many branding her remarks as “gross” and “crazy”.
Let’s not forget why this joke hit a sour note. Diddy was arrested last year on serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering. He’s denied any wrongdoing but the details are enough to make anyone cringe.
During the raid on Diddy’s house, police recovered “more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant”.
So, yeah, maybe this was one of those moments where a bit more sensitivity could’ve gone a long way.
