Legendary actress Angela Bassett receives recognition at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Legendary actress Angela Bassett received her flowers recently as she got recognition at the 76th Creative Arts Emmy Awards for the category for Outstanding Narrator.

This is Bassett's first Emmy award she has won ever since she started her acting career in the 1980s.

The 66-year-old American actress is known for her role as T’challa in “The Black Panther” movie, which gained traction globally and became one of the highest grossing movies in 2022.

Bassett won the Emmy award for her narration for the National Geographic series called “Queens”.

“Oh my God! Wow! My first Emmy. It feels really good. Thank you to National Geographic, Wildstar Film and all the directors. All women who brought this incredible docu-series centred on the ferocious and magnificent females in the animal kingdom,” the teary actress said during her acceptance speech.

Bassett has won many accolades before with some including two Golden Globes, a BET award, and an Academy Honorary Award.

She also took to Instagram to celebrate this milestone with her followers.

“My very first Emmy. It feels really good to hold this in my hands. Thank you to the Emmy Awards for recognising me and the extraordinary story that the Queens docu-series tells.

“So much of my life is spent on camera telling stories that when I have the opportunity to step back and allow these majestic, powerful creatures to be the centre of our attention. I am honoured to be their voice” she captioned her post.

Many celebrities such as Halle Berry, Tina Knowles and Viola Davis congratulated her on winning her first Emmy award.

Halle Berry commented, “Congratulations my sis”.

Tina Knowles commented, “Yes Queen Angela!!! Well deserved my beautiful, talented and kind friend”.

Viola Davis commented, “Awesome sis! Congratulations!!”

Bassett is not the only actress who got recognition this year at the Emmy Awards for the first time since their acting careers debuted.

Canadian and American actress, Sandra Miju Oh, also received an award for her role as Jenny Yum in the film “Quiz Lady”.

The 53-year-old actress has also appeared in popular movies and series such as “Killing Eve, Grey’s Anatomy, Turning Red and Home”.
