Foxy Focus: the crafty way to instant focus and concentration

With the 2010 matric pass rate at 67 percent, Foxy Focus may be the key to making the year brighter for those who are facing their final year of high school in 2011 full of hope.

Grové is a counselling psychologist and author whose last book, Thank You Brain, was meant to help readers attain the most out of brain use.

Her latest contribution focuses on assisting matrics in getting the most out of their work.

Although I am not in matric, I found the techniques and issues covered in the book to be valuable in gaining a clearer understanding of self.

I expected to find the common repetition of, “turn off the music and make sure the lighting is sufficient”, so I was surprised to see Grové delve into realms of self-motivation, interpersonal relationships and the ability to forgive oneself to oust negative feelings.

The book speaks about the imperative-ness of emotion. It explores the depths of subconscious awareness and the power of the imagination.

One thing I have to point out is that Grové’s empowerment techniques are a bit out there, with quick-fixes like fist pumping and energy bubbles that the more independent-minded might find a bit silly. However, the seemingly daft techniques are not the main issue. What Grové is trying to portray is a state of mind that is controlled, flexible and creatively ambitious.

Although not the most formal of books, with its comic illustrations of the Foxy Fox in his meditative positions, it is one which, if taken seriously, may endow you with the mindset to succeed.

There’s nothing amorous about Foxy. Albeit blessed with good looks, he’s all about focus and concentration. – Tshepo Tshabalala
