What can be said about Jackie Selebi? Not a lot. Basson has compiled a dossier on the man who became the national commissioner of police in 2000, but which tells us very little about him.
A former history teacher who, before becoming top cop, went into exile in Tanzania, spent time “training” in Moscow and then returned to become a Member of Parliament, a United Nations ambassador and director-general of Foreign Affairs.
He is praised for his previous civil service work, but is a catastrophic failure as a cop.
